The trip that never was….
It’s always been a bit of a curiosity, a truly ‘new’ city built ground up next to an existing city rather than replacing it (as is the cases in most countries) – the technology and architecture were the main lure and made us curious.
We’d booked via British Airways, paid our deposit and spent a lot of time looking at things to do and places to go, pre-booked a desert excursion involving ATVs, camels, sand boarding, star gazing and a huge banquet style meal.
Then someone argued with someone else and their mates got involved and some other bigger kids came along and basically certain countries around Dubai started to feel a little less welcoming – I mean when your government has a habit of just getting itself involved in every argument, it does sometimes paint a target on the back of it’s citizens!
Anyway, with this in mind and not wanting to be in a last minute forced cancellation we decided to cancel and book somewhere else. Yes we lost our deposit but a chunk of that was paid for by Avios points anyway and the money we lost was actually less than changing the holiday via BA for a different destination. (Odd but hey ho)
Fast forward several months to when we were due to go on this holiday and I happened to notice the temperatures for when we would have been there…..low to mid 40Cs with a real feel above 50C – I can take some heat but once we go past mid 30Cs then I simply want to laze around and drink cocktails or juice drinks or simply go searching for a room with AC!

Whilst we missed out on a unique experience, we certainly didn’t miss out on temperatures that would have turned me into a melting green mushy blob. Maybe we’ll get to go one day when it’s slightly cooler!
